Chronic Knee Pain
In simple words, chronic knee pain is long-term pain or sensitivity in one or both knees. The cause of your knee pain can be determined by the symptoms you experience. Causes of Chronic Knee Pain
You need to know that there is a difference between knee pain and chronic knee pain. Many people experience simple knee pain, which can go away without the treatment. Simple knee pain can be the result of injury or accident. However, chronic knee pain needs to be treated well if you want to get rid of it. Chronic knee pain can be the result of several physical conditions including:
- Osteoarthritis – inflammation, pain and joint destruction caused by deterioration and degeneration
- Tendinitis – Pain in front side of the knee, usually worsen when climbing or walking up the incline
- Rheumatoid Arthritis – joint deformity and bone erosion
- Bursitis – inflammation caused by repeated overuse of the knee
- Gout – arthritis caused by an increase in uric acid
- Dislocation – dislocation of knee cap due to trauma
- Meniscus tear – a rupture in the cartilages in the knee
- Chondromalacia patella – damage of cartilage under the knee cap
- Bone tumours – second most prevalent bone cancer
- Torn ligaments – tear in one of the four ligaments in the knee, the most commonly injured ligament
Some factors that can make chronic pain worse are:
- Sprains and strains
- Infection
- Bad posture when doing physical exercises
- Improper stretching of muscles
- Injuries to the structure of the knee can cause swelling and bleeding
Symptoms of Chronic Knee Pain
The symptoms of chronic pain in the knee can vary from person to person. Symptoms of chronic knee pain also depend on the cause of the pain.
Some common symptoms of chronic knee pain are:
- Constant ache
- Dull burning discomfort
- Sharp, shooting pain during movement
Diagnosis of Chronic Knee Pain
Each cause and symptom of chronic pain requires different diagnostic tests. These tests include blood work, physical examination, X-rays, CT scan or MRI or another imaging test.
Treatment of Chronic Knee Pain
Every cause of chronic knee pain has a specific type of treatment. These treatments may include:
- Physical therapy
- Surgery
- Medication
- Injections
Bursitis is a common cause of knee pain, and can be treated in the following ways:
Put ice on your knees indirectly for 15 minutes once an hour for three or four hours. Do not apply the ice directly on your knees. You can place ice in a plastic bag and then put the pack in the towel.
Wear flat shoes, which support your feet and don’t exacerbate your pain.
You can also use painkiller to avoid chronic pain. You can use NSAID and Opioid to treat chronic pain. You can buy pain medicine online to get rid of chronic knee pain. These medications produce the calming effects in the brain and relax the nerves and muscles of the body.
You can also minimise chronic pain by avoiding sleeping on your side. It would help if you used pillows positioned on either side of your body to prevent you from rolling onto your side.
